Turkey Talk

The history of our ancestors, wild turkeys, explained an old wise Tom, is that it’s filled with far more bad than good memories. First, their numbers were never killed as often or as many as are today. Second, and this is irrefutable, they were healthier because a natural diet made kept them lean. not like today’s overweight monstrosities. Lastly, and this is most ironic, they ate native berries like blue and rasp and cran, high in fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants – not the trash we’re fed today – pesticides, steroids, hormones, and other contaminants. And look at the effect these have had on us! They’ve blown us up to an unnatural size, our ancestors would have looked on with disgust. With bigger thighs and more buxsom breasts you’d think we were competing with Mae West! When danger loomed, our ancestors could fly, a fatal stroke is what we’d get even with a try. Nov. 8, 2010

Dear Maurice, the "old wise Tom" is as witty as he is informative! Your last three lines of "turkey talk" make for a facetious finale to a great poem! :) Warmest wishes for a happy Thanksgiving, my poet friend. ~Susan

Thanks for the stop by Susan and the comment. Turkeys not a favorite meat, I prefer chicken. This year I thought I'd try a whole duck, but at $60 per duck I said no. Besides, I gave us on Thanksgiving years ago. I sick to my diabetic foods most of which I enjoy anyway. / Maurice
