Truth

...for Carson McCullers Terse language scored to the bone with no leftovers; pouring sorrow into every crucial word without a shred of platitude. She faced her ghosts with grace and fortitude, placing hope and loss in perfect symmetry, embracing solitude. Straight to the heart she spoke the truth, with no equivocation or careless gesture.

One of my favourite novels... I first read it in college some 40 years ago. Speaking of alcohol, one of her best short stories - 'A Domestic Dilemma' - deals with alcoholism within a family. The last line has always stuck with me... 'and sorrow paralleled desire in the immense complexity of love.' She was a marvelous exponent of the human condition.

Nice tribute Kieth. There's 1 scene from the heart is a lonely hunter that always stuck with me since I read it in school. It has the main character, the teenage girl sitting at the bar with a pint of beer and a bowl of ice cream. I think it was supposed to symbolize the transition for this girl from childhood to adulthood, from sugary sweets to pain dulling alcohol. Seems like the kind of symbol that's relevant for a young guy settling into a lifetime of servitude.

I've never read her but after reading this, I am definitely interested. A perfectly penned dedication to someone who obviously has much strength of character. Beautifully done, as always. Love Robin
