Tragic Chapters
For Steve
Dreading chapters yesteryears inked about us,
hour after day, I delayed my inevitable look.
I feared pain from words contained about us.
Dusty pages lay waiting and fading undisturbed.
In time, my will summed a pathway to confront
all sharings the book determined it construct:
My heart shakes and throbs as I attempt each word.
I strain my eyes to read inked chapters about our world.
Complete imagery leaps with emotions I will keep
including all bruising as ache-fraught inside of me
Time after years, I recall fondling that book
seeking clarity about all heartbreaks took.
It lacked any mention of why our love failed.
There were no pages with words explaining why,
so acceptance was the only semblance of an ally.
