Too Much of Anything
It is generally said that excess of anything
Good or bad is not ultimately benefiting
This, therefore, calls for firm controlling
Of whatever exercise we are conducting.
Delicious foods in surplus do huge damages
This is verily true of all fleeting belongings
Their enjoyment breeds additional desires
And induce the mind into unnecessary craving.
The one steeped in moral and ethical thinking
May find it awfully repulsive and nauseating
The appalling acts and practices of overdoing
Act as impediments in our further progressing.
Neither too much of excitement and rejoicing
Nor excessive load of weariness and weeping
But a balanced approach to all things looming
Find a proper and suitable step for succeeding.
All said and done about excess of everything
But for Mark Twain’s humorous commenting
That too much of everything is just too much
But too much of whiskey is just the right thing.
