Too Hot For May

I wanted to plant a garden that day Found out it was way too hot for May I can't believe the toil and sweat I am totally soaking wet Then comes June its hotter still But then I decided to plant some dill Then one night I watered the beans I cooked and ate them in my dreams That is the only way that they got cooked The deer had beans and peppers but squash forsook As I stood and felt faint of heart I knew that for supper we could only have a tart I wondered how fast that deer had run To the creek to cool his tongue For he had eaten the Jalapeno and Cheyenne without a bun I could wish him harm but I won't just turn on the fire alarm

It's been unseasonably for months hot here, too, Sara. And you certainly capture the steamy agony of hot weather. Envy the way the deer is able to run to the creek to "cool his tongue." The last two lines made me laugh. Hang in there -- there's a long, hot summer still ahead. Great poem! Love, Carolyn
