Tomorrow

On this day, one that you never reach,
a day that only exists to those that dream of days where stars you wish upon,
a day that wakes you to excitement to start the day anew,
and all the little things that never saw the through
could then be labeled due.
And as you race to beat the second hand,
and another day lays just ahead,
and this day, oh to me, is better by far than any of the days before.
And even when the midday slump takes you through a circadian drift,
and there in the daydreams realm
is this day that's never here,
one that you never reach.
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll never be a day too late.

There exists a place
that has never known footprints.

It hangs beyond every finish line,
borrows the color of every sunrise,
and wears the perfume of possibility.

Children discover it before they know its name.
Lovers promise it with trembling hands.
The weary bargain for it,
while the broken build quiet homes inside its promise.

It is patient enough
to let clocks pretend they are in charge.

It waits while calendars
shed another page,
while birthdays gather like rings inside an old oak,
while mirrors slowly trade certainty
for wisdom.

Its voice is never loud.

It whispers from unopened letters,
from empty journals,
from half-written songs,
from suitcases still tucked beneath the bed,
from front porches where old souls
still watch the evening settle
as though expecting a familiar knock.

It has never demanded perfection.

Only another attempt.

Another forgiveness.

Another deep breath.

Another chance to become
the stranger your younger heart
always believed you would be.

Some spend an entire lifetime chasing it,
never noticing that every step taken toward it
became something precious before it arrived.

Some curse its distance.

Others learn that the journey itself
was quietly becoming enough.

Perhaps that is the greatest secret of all.

The destination has never been waiting for us.

It has always been teaching us
how to walk.

And if it never arrives,
your story remains complete,
because every sunrise you were given
was already more than a promise.

It was life itself.

And the name we've always given
to the place we never reach...

Tomorrow.
