Together Strong

I said to my mother, " together we are strong," mom bravely battled with illness for twenty years; but the end came and her life I could not prolong, I made the decision to pull the plug with tears. Mom bravely battled with illness for twenty years, never will I regret spending many years with her; I made the decision to pull the plug with tears, packed my stuff and moved in- and together we were. Never will I regret spending many years with her, we were always friends but became even closer; packed my stuff and moved in- and together we were, mom loved shopping 'till she fainted at the grocer. We were always friends but became even closer, first, a walker, then a wheelchair- then bedridden; mom loved shopping 'till she fainted at the grocer, I became her caregiver- with deep sadness hidden. First, a walker, then a wheelchair- then bedridden, but the end came and her life I could not prolong; I became her caregiver- with deep sadness hidden, I said to my mother, "together we are strong." _________________________ March 12, 2018 Poetry/Pantoum/Together Strong Copyright Protected, ID 18-1003-293-01 All Rights Reserved. Congrats Constance on a great poem and win, the pantoum form I find difficult but yours was, smooth flowing and coherent not forced, and with a sad but great story.

Congratulations on your win with this heartfelt write that I certainly could relate to. My mom passed 6 yrs ago and it was exactly as you described it. It was my turn to be strong but turns out my strength came from her. Well written!

Constance, such a beautiful written poem about your mom, sad-yes, but when put into such words- we can't help but to smile. As this reminds me of my mother whom I lost 30 years ago. Congrats & Hugs.. Charlie

"Deep sadness hidden". As caregiver...you too, needed a caregiver. You suffered more in different way than she. Self sacrifice spares one of guilt, knowing gave your all. Beautiful as poem, and as a model of life well given. Hope joy has returned to your life, happiness follows in time. bbn Big Congrats!
