To Say Goodbye
He only stared at his son, not
knowing what to say.
Just tears slowly falling, for
himself there is no new day.
For as chances go, for him and
his son this will be it.
So he struggled with the puzzle
of words trying to make this all
fit.
But what words could he utter
that will last forever.
Or what action can he take that
will not be a worthless endover.
Since so small is the boy that
the man for the last time will
see.
With tears in his eyes he sadly
asked will you even remember
me.
What kind of advice can he
give that will keep the young
man strong.
Is there any counsel that will
keep steady even when father
is gone?
Is the absence of a guide mean
the ship will never set sail?
If the student learns from no
teacher shall he be destined to
fail?
And if he does fall will it be for
good or forgotten.
Asking his young offspring will
your life produce fine fruit or
rotten.
Who will tell him about life and
how to smile.
How to love a girl and the
combination to her heart to
dial.
Who will teach you to love
sports and to never give up.
To control your emotion while
you do not erupt.
Who will be there when no one
else even cares.
To help you stay stable on lifes
crooked stairs.
Who will tell you even in the
smallest things he is proud.
Teach you to never follow but
walk ahead of the crowd.
But through it all he knew
when the boy grew up he will
hate him or at least try.
Will anyone ever tell him how
hard it was to say goodbye.
