What do you do when you've lost your muse And discouraging things seed a rooted blues? Where do you turn when your sweetest verse Gets a critical snub that just makes it worse? See, each little poem, birthed within your soul Is a part of the matter that makes you whole And when your best comes up with a blank It's hard to know which nasty fate to thank I imagine to others, it seems a small thing But the love of a poem is what makes it sing If the wilt of your rose actuates some pain Remember that growth needs a bit of rain So, put down the pen and attend your heart Give your muse some air ... and a fresh new start.

Sometimes it's a good fate. We're not depressed singing the old poet blues. Great write. Wonderful theme.

You find a poetry site ten years later and your muse yawns and rubs her eyes and says "where have you been?" <3

Very sound advice. My muse has been out of town a lot lately. So I'm not fighting it. Good write.

Thank you so much, Dale, mine has, too ... I used to fight it - struggle to break through - but I believe there's a REASON for it, so I just go with the flow, and go about other things until it returnes, otherwise it's just adding stress where I don't NEED to. Blessings, my friend! :-)

Nice one Greg, I enjoy everything you write. The wilt of your rose actuates pain, so true, disappointments or losing a love although painful, eventually inspires writing that may console someone else going through the same thing!

Very kind of you, John, thank you so much ... and you are so right. Love is certainly a wonderful muse, but so is growth, wisdom and heartache, (and often the former requires the latter), in fact, I'm sure I've written more poems about sadness than the opposite ... we ALWAYS pay a price for love, but as poets, we turn it into something beautiful. That's a blessing and gift that comes from above. I believe we are conduits, nothing more, but terribly blessed to BE so. Best wishes, my friend! :-)
