Titled Defeats

I attempted to write
another poem today

attempted

for no poem is complete
learned representative of one’s
best 

each merely prelude
to hopefully an ever higher
quest -- 

Each poem, a tower platform

Each poem a Babel, destined
to fall short~ for each, his own
lyric god unreachable
-----------------------------------
I have attempted thousands already

Have published thousands, sharing 

publicly my many, titled defeats --

Valsa George September 4, 2026 at 6:11 AM Dear Joe, to this I can so well relate. For me too there are many 'titled defeats'. There are only very few poems that have given me a sense of completion and full satisfaction. If I happen to read any of my older poems, I keep editing them. Some give me real satisfaction and I read them again and again deriving a lot of pleasure. Some I leave unfinished and never post them. Beautifully expressed. Joseph P. I consider each poem more or less a matter in and of itself even though I may repeat a 'topic' and keep 'picking' (revising) at some for decades. Hey, I just got it, my line about 'picking' took me where I think this poem is. I'm awake now. CayCay Joseph P. I get that all the time and also I never think my poetry is good enough or ready to be posted... recently I have sat down and started to write, only to give up..
