Time To Teach About Consequences In Schools

It is time,
To teach children about consequences in schools,
If we want to give students the tools,
To avoid a life of crime.

When the children come home from their schools,
With their new set of tools,
They might have time,
To teach their parents to think twice about their life of crime.

It is just a shame that parents who had the time,
But were using the wrong tools,
Which were supplied when they were bunking from their schools,
That gave them no consequences for a life of crime.

When I was a teacher of young children, I read a book about natural consequences By Yette Goodman. It was excellent. It taught me how to teach children to take responsibility for negative behavior in a positive, constructive, professional, age appropriate way. Trust me, it worked for my students. I think violent video games teach violent behavior without consequences. If you are a cartoon, you are free to go

"Good on you. Pleases me no end. I was early childhood teacher 30 years and self published book 'suffer the little children.' I did a lot of relieving work and saw things you may believe but few want to discuss. Situation only getting worse for children in Day Care. Was more community based and part time when I trained, mostly as volunteer. 2/3 probably. Now it is run chiefly by big business and we all suffer. I have worked with all age groups and abilities so concur with you. David in NZ"

I have always "taught" ACTIONS - slash - CONSEQUENCES....to my kids and their friends. It doesn't mean that they will always do the right thing but it reminds them that THEY are the ones who will pay the consequences....or should be....

Of course time out was also available when I was a kid and now it is frowned upon and open plan living makes option hard. Most kids given time to think things through will take right option. That is why sport for children is important as coaches still have power to drop someone from a team. You only have to look at Cricket and how determined dropped players come back stronger and maybe a better person. Keep on being a great role model and enjoy the festive season. Very best regards David in NZ

We have to keep looking for ways to turn it around. Maybe a youth court run by the young ones. Tried by their peers. We are doing them no favours by letting them get a get out of jail free card and then they suddenly turn 16 or 17 and the damage has been done. I think too a lot of boys are still being spoiled rotten by parents. Not enough good male role models does not help. We can but hope more poetry in schools will help. take care and Enjoy the holidays if you can David in NZ.

Parents are the first educators of our children. Unfortunately their moral behaviour leaves much to be desired.

Yes. You are right. Unfortunately but maybe discussions at school about consequences can help. Anything is worth a try otherwise we will see more of the same. Hope you are able to have a peaceful Christmas . Very best regards David in NZ. Our grandson will be 3 in February so looking forward to this Christmas wit him.
