just drifting along
repeating my life's mistakes
refrains in a song
endless lyrics of heartbreaks
memories of what went wrong

mind singing the blues
sad emotions, falling tears
noticing the clues
admitting the end is near
deciding which life to choose

notes leaving the head
music vacating all thought
releasing the dread
that was pent up in my heart
new refrain, "at last it's dead."

I'm glad it's fiction Lin. You wrote it believably which tells me you have known your share of heartache.

I was wondering if this was for the lament contest? It is quite beautiful with tender poignancy.#7

I didn't write it for a contest, but thank you for liking it so well, Connie. You're very generous.
