Notes About The Poem

Through The Eyes Of Babes

Filtering through the empty broken balconies along the rivieras
are the waning cacophonies echoing monotonous songs,
“Merciless they are to us at the breaking of dawn”
Where life once thrived, we arrived in the city called the strip,
an open-air prison, an amphitheater without any spectators
insight, although the world is watching
We trudge onto yet another camp
The sun brings nothing, not anything more than light
that shines upon a smokey sky
I see more of nothingness, space, void, rubble
Everything is foreign and everyone has changed
All are cold, scared, and hungry, we walk aimlessly
In the hands of anyone unknowing if he or she's sane
There is so much fear, I am no longer safe
A new reality has come upon me
To the smell of death should I adapt?
A new day has dawned, morning has broken
Echoes pick up murmurs of others tears long spent
sifting through these ruins where I hide
Unattended unattached, no time for a sigh,
cry, or yawn, I am zombie like
The unrest of the last night has begun again
The recent blood red scenes now past
Yesterday's echoes filter one more reality
Will it be me today?

The scene you have depicted is so sad. Innocent children getting away from their homes destroyed and dear ones shot dead or wounded. War and rebellion leave trails of destruction making many innocent children orphans. They are made to shift to camps where there is no safety or security assured. Having no roots or dear ones in an alien soil, what they confront is fear and insecurity. A heart wrenching poem , dear Anaya.

Anaya, the damage to the innocent brings tears to my eyes when I think about it. On some level, the perpetrators justify this by calculating that they are worth more than those they destroy. It's not something anyone with reasonable humanity can justify and does not bode well for any of us. Thanks for this piece. Very insightful and thought provoking.

War is useless and solves nothing in the long run. It is a disaster for humanity, especially for children. I loved the ending.

To blow up buildings, leaving rumble behind and whoever is in them. The reason being, Hezbollah militants hiding inside, using civilians. They will cease fire, but the whole thing shouldn't have begun at all. // We saw it from the very beginnings, Victor. Gaza war is persisting as usual, over 44,000 Gazans dead and no end in sight, mostly women and children. America arms Isreal. Iran arms Hezbollah and Hamas. Ty

Your poem presents a harrowing and unflinching look at a world turned upside down, where survival is an endless struggle and fear permeates every aspect of life. Through vivid imagery and a powerful exploration of psychological and emotional decay, the poem highlights the loss of security, humanity, and hope in the face of relentless suffering. The detachment and alienation reflect the dehumanizing effects of living in such a brutal, unpredictable reality, where every new day is filled with the possibility of death. The poem leaves readers with a sense of existential questioning, as the speaker contemplates whether this bleak, zombie-like existence is all that remains. How sad we live in a world like this..

Outstanding words, Silent One, your comments are much needed as further insight to these atrocities we're witnessing daily, as the world watches we can take the opportunities to express how we feel, come together, and show those who aren't aware through poetry. This week I'll give thanks for many things (Thanksgiving). It's so sad, SO. xhugs Anaya

Dear Anaya, How hauntingly sad, for you captured the stark reality of fear and change for the cruelity imposed upon the innocent. I think your imagery of empty balconies and smokey skies echoes deep emotions that everyone should read and act. It truly is a picture of survival amidst desolation. I pray for peace and intervention! Autumn Blessings, MY Dear Friend, Daniel

Ty, Paula. I used an AI pictorial, because I want to make sure that the children on the internet are not being exploited.
