Listen to poem:

This Was It

I stood up to the plate
there was no way I wouldn’t give my all
I knew I would be tested with everything I had

there would be no makeover, no redo
this was it, the show stopper
the call for the performance of a lifetime

the final scene of the last act
be brave, it was now or never
it had finally all led to this

as loud as loud could be
I heard it in the silence of forevers
‘come on, give us all you’ve got’

and so it was I took my husband home
the hospital said the end was near
it was the final curtain call

his mind was tainted, not all there
thankful the end hadn’t come more abruptly
make every moment count is what I heard

so it was I would prepare my love
much like for a formal wedding ceremony
for the moment I’d walk him through the garden
down that aisle right up to heaven’s gate

Your words, your oration, and your brave heart to face your husbands “final curtain call”~ a tragedy you carried out with a dignified “performance”. I am moved to tears. Good Luck in the contest. :)Paulette
