This Happy Memory

Me
Dad
fishing
Mum's old tights
over coffee jar
towed along with a piece of string
catching some unwary minnows in the strong current
the water tinkled over the rocks, making a sound like a box of spilling pencils

calm
day
sunny
rush hour time
people going home
stopping, starting,controlled by lights
we, cocooned within the shadow of the bridge above
which contrasted in that moment how different the ways we can choose to live our days.

Sun
sets
cooling,
shadows stretch
Poppies go to sleep
petals closing, controlled by light
with a nod and a smile he signals it's time to go
I remember it was the one day in his whole life that we had alone together

You did well with this, Viv. Fibonacci is not an easy form and you hid it well. It is a vivid remembrance in your mind. Congrats on a fine placement too...I really enjoyed your vignettes on the day with your dad.

haha, just saw your counting syllables reply to me. Sorry I don't have time to search for a poem of yours to read. I believe I may have seen all your poetry! I STILL have not gotten to this contest. It's just not as easy as it looks , so good on you, Viv. You nailed it!

YOu took the contest's title and wove true magic with the three stanzas of this great form. Oh, I hope I can do as well as you did showing this one special day with your dad!! Fantastic job.

Thanks, Andrea, very kind. It's certainly a form that takes some work- if you had seen how many times I'd been counting syllables on my fingers.... x

Funny how just one special memory can be filed away forever because it was so special to us. Wonderful style that you've written to recall your special memories, Viv!

What a beautiful and sentimental reverie Viv. I so enjoyed reading your lovely poem and feeling like I was there in the middle of it. What a truly special day that was for you and your dad. Just enchanting. Best wishes for a win.. ~Susan

Thanks, Anne-Lise, a piece of stocking stretched over the jar and tied, then with a hole in the middle to let the fish in was a cheap, effective way for a kid to fish. Viv x
