This Cold, Cold Truth

As much as I love snow,
This cold is enough to make me honest today ~
My old bones require more warmth,
And I have to constantly cover myself from head to toe,
If and when I step out of my cozy home;
The hearth needs to be blazing hot,
And I don't have the strength to chop wood anymore,
Who will help this old, lonely lady?
People around have grown cold over time,
There is a lack of love, warmth and caring,
As the day of the Lord draws nearer,
Or maybe my last day (whichever comes first).
The cold of the night is seeping in
Through these cracked windows and elderly bones,
And my weary wrinkles shiver,
A blanket is not enough nowadays
And I long for the warmth of the sweet Summer sun.
There was a time when I played in the snow,
Making magical snow angels and chubby snowmen,
Catching the soft snowflakes on my tongue,
But now, thinking of the white snow makes me white,
This cold is enough to make me honest today ~
I simply can't bear this chillness any longer.

Dear Joanna, as we grow older, we cannot take extreme climatic changes. Though we don't have snow here, l can so well relate to your mental state. I too am fond of summer days. Yes, the people also grow colder. Once there was so much more of warmth in them. Sorry for my late response. I have taken a break from poetry soup, being busy with my son's marriage. Wish you all the best.

Could feel the chill in your verse Joanna, now I'm older I prefer to watch from indoors. When my daughters were little I'd go in the garden and make them a snowman, my hands used to be blue lol. Tom

The cold is very hard to deal with and with wind , even more. I understand. I had a woodstove at my last house and it was a lot of work even with wood delivered , already cut. I hope you stay warm. Blessings :)
