There You Are

When the nights are cold
And my soul seems broken
When the fire inside needs care
And I don’t have any more wood

There you are to tend to my flame
To heat my world

When sadness takes precedent
And the subsequent storm approaches
As the rain pounds my head
And the thunder shakes my convictions

There you are to give me shelter
Wrapping your heart around mine

When I am laid bare
And my scars are on display
As I cringe at each one
Frightened they are my undoing

There you are, tracing with your hands
Accepting every wound

My imperfections
My mistakes
Each blemish and cut
I am not perfect
But you love me like I am

And when you stumble
And worry you aren’t enough
When your light dims
And the thunder rolls

There I will be forever
Holding you just as you held me
