There Just Beyond That Long Black Sea Curtain

There Just Beyond That Long Black Sea Curtain Across the expanse, twilight's beckoning mystery Far flung over hidden thundering, splashing waves Lies the unknown, extension of man's history Adventure begging footsteps of the true and brave Centuries, that call has cried, "come- take a chance" Journey in search of love, treasure, life and much more Such that in great palaces hold Love and Romance Wealth and sweet pleasures in those far off golden shores. Beyond the horizon, past that enticing wall There awaits, the promise of streets paved with gold Listen and dare to heed that soft enchanting call Walk into the unknown, dare to be truly bold! To be had, sailing beyond those sea foaming veils That which the bravest adventurer's heart knows true Treasures, romance as told in many sailor's tales All beyond, far beyond, waiting for me and you! Robert J. Lindley, 5-03-2021 Imagism, ( Where in art - the mind begins to truly see ) Inspired by Brian's new blog and the two paintings "Monk by the Sea", and "Moonrise over the Sea" Painted by Caspar David Friedrich…

Thank you my friend. Such was one of the times that the verses just seemed to flow like a waterfall. I still have those now but not near as often as I did in my youth( in my wild, oft innocent/spirited and wayward youth!). Alas! *This heart and soul wish such was not the case.* *That Time would not inspiration erase. * That life and love forever uplifted. * Spirit of man with love, light, truth gifted. God bless...

The soft embrace of oblivion ... or the ultimate hopes of the spirit. What will be on the other side? Whitman called this the "delicious word" ... the "sweetest song and all songs", and not something to fear. This is a beautiful write, my friend, and my kind of poem. Fave-ing now!

My dear friend, the depth and breadth of your creative use of emotions and vibrant expressive imagery never fails to amaze and entice my heart's imagination. So evocative is "beyond the horizon" and so courageous and irrepressible the hearts of those who sought to cross it. A superb gem, Robert, a deep rich poem that sparkles with the talent of your golden pen. Warmest wishes, my wonderful friend.. ~Susan

Thank you my friend. I am lately just so tired. I was so truly shocked , when the old fire returned, and the inspiration for this poem came. Yes, there was so very much to see behind that long black curtain. And history repeatedly reveals that array of rich treasures that so many others have sought and so many have been truly blessed to have also found. God bless.

That I write so often of youth, my errors, my failings is my commitment to truth. And my message to others, we are none of us perfect- no not one. As flesh is weak and man is but a part of this realm-this world which is steeped in evil and savagery. While in the darkness, only seeking the Light can save one from that dreaded fate, that flight into the other realm. God bless..

Thank you my friend. As a poet I sometimes can find from deep within, images of that which only the heart and soul can feel and understand- even if that understanding is but a rare, very brief glimpse. One that simply must be set down in ink before it vanishes. I know such is the case with many poets, as I can both see it and feel it, when I read their verses. One of the treasures and benefits of being a poet methinks.. God bless..

Thank you my friend. To me it was a joy to write with images being the primary focus. As the pen flowed the scenes danced and through through ether came words of a different texture, a different hue and a different flavor. Such that once again I may be inclined to venture that splendid new path. God bless..

One has to take a chance on love and life, that is how it is ... it is never calculated ... love and life involves risk. Beautiful poem as usual Lindley, with a deep message. I love his Monk by the Sea, out of those two paintings you mention. The starkness and quite reflection of the monk enveloped by the depth of the sky and the ocean. I like the use of blues, greys and greens.

Thank you my friend. Dare we to ever look deeper for the truth, search longer for the path- walk straighter to find that which awaits our heart and soul to grasp. Be it painting with brush or with poetic pen- we are but weak and fallen men. And in that gloomy dark- we pray that a light will one day lead us into a peaceful eternity. Life is but a mirage-- faith and truth is the reality. God bless..

I like it better than the Wanderer above the Sea of Fog (which happens to be a favourite of mine by same artist), it holds promise while he (the wanderer) surveys his world above the fog, you may recall I posted that piece of art with my poem "Captive Deep Blue Je Reviens". The artist, Friedrich states his ideas in regards to that painting, "The artist should paint not only what he has in front of him but also what he sees inside himself." I have been left thinking which of the two paintings you mention, which may be the main inspiration of your poem, you relate to most? Of course, you realise, this may well have inspired me to thoughts of a response. Trust all well on the homefront. Leanne x
