Listen to poem:

There Is Still Beauty

Friends, do not forget: there is still beauty
When the darkness comes and shadows fall,
Music, Art, and nature, gentle comforts
When despair is deep and hope is small.

Friends, do not forget: there is still laughter
When we’ve finished choking down our tears,
When the world seems full of desolation
And we grit our teeth and face our fears.

Friends, do not forget: they have not taken
Kindness, love and friendship from our hearts.
If we can resist the hate and anger,
Maybe we can be where healing starts.

We will rise again tomorrow morning,
Sunshine follows even darkest night.
Think of this when you feel close to breaking
As we walk the long road to the light.

I don't know what inspired this poem. It could have been personal, but it could as well be political or Covid-related. It doesn't matter because it is inspirational for all of us. Beautifully written - good rhyme and meter as well. We should all heed the advice.

I am seeing this gem again(and hearing it) I wanted to check out your best poem ever (according to SOUP). Although it it has an excellent message, I believe your VERY best are the several ones I have personally faved! When you write with imagery, you are off the charts, Agnes!

Thank you, Andrea. This means a lot to me. I think the reason PS counts this as "best" is that it has the most views. I wrote it at a time when this spoke to many people, and it was POTD. So, maybe not my best poem, but perhaps the one that spoke to the most people and gave comfort. Which is valuable, too.

Really enjoyed this contribution here of yours, Agnes. This is exactly what has happened so many times over the centuries...People write poetry, and someone, perhaps many decades later, puts it all to music; so many of our most notable hymns have been created this way. Good on you, Agnes, for being creative and brave! Excellent effort!! My warmest regards, Agnes. :) john

Wonderul poem, Agnes! This has been so true in my life, which has seen many disasters and a lot of pain, but I'm still a happy person by nature and thank God, my parents taught me to see the beauty in the world.

This is a more lyrical and poetical therapy write that is touching and sewed with emotion in its most sincere form. I hope you entered it in the contest. It is not only election-healing, but a healing of all ills on a universal and human level. Well done, Agnes ... CayCay

It is 'ambiguous' enough, for it could be about the upset from reactions rather than candidates. Enter it. All my opinions, uninvited at that ... CayCay

Thanks, Andrea. I was thinking about it, but it does not fit Kim's rules, because we are not supposed to voice our political opinion... and I think mine is pretty clearly expressed.
