The World Has Changed
nobody listens -
why should they
they know we ed up.
The old are rarely wise
the way an old bull elephant is wise,
we merely survived ourselves.
The people have changed
once they were trusting and were betrayed
now they betray themselves.
The young overhear the lies of the old,
they secretly know,
they understand they have to construct
bigger, better lies.
Once the world was a plum,
full and sweet, or it seemed so.
There was danger everywhere,
yet we understood that danger had a purpose.
Now the world is a bug
inside the flesh of a blood red plum
and the plum is tasteless.
We could tell the young
exactly when the world changed,
fortunately memories fade,
we grow sleepy.
Tongues nowadays, like that serpent of old,
believe the lies that they spread.
Lips nowadays,
have learned the black and white arts,
they know how to indoctrinate,
manipulate, relate.
They make the lies true,
make it right for the wrong in us.
The days forget themselves.
We have to listen
while the younger lies
change their skins
time and time again.
