The Word Amazing

Think about the word amazing 
And being alive in the 21st century 
And the fact that we still fight in wars, 
And report news stories about racism 
And murder and robbery and suicide 
And police brutality and dirty politics 
And terrorists killing women and children because 
These events are a normal part of our everyday lives.  

Now think about the word amazing again 
And the fact that we haven’t figured out 
That we are all related as members of the same species, 
Regardless of our age or personal beliefs 
Or the color of our skin or our cultural backgrounds 
Because we were all born on the same planet 
In the same solar system in the same galaxy 
And all lived and died throughout the same brief history of time.
