The Winter Loss
A mask of innocence I wore,
To hide my red eyes sore.
In worlds together we dreamt of,
You would hold me like foxglove.
The face of pain you made,
Retreats my own to shade.
‘Neath to the nest of old oak,
From birds sounded the words you spoke;
‘Must we stay one,
Sooner is the pain in two.
You breathe like fog,
For remote mine love hides’
A “Bye” you say one more time,
Too remote is the final sign,
From spring is peace brought forth,
A map and hope takes us north.
From such in rain shalt hide I,
And worlds we found help mine cry.
I see now songs of love,
Unlock the cage of doves.
