Old John's birthday was approaching, he'd be seventy two And his family asked him nicely what he'd like to do "Do you fancy a nice picnic or sightseeing on a train" "No thanks" said Old John "I'd like to wing walk on a plane ". His family thought he was joking, in fun they all did mock They said "It will be freezing and you might die of shock" He said" I have no fear, and everything will be fine I found it on a website and I've booked it on the line". His family they were mortified and thought he was lying But one week from today Old John he'll be flying A week later at the airfield Old John was quite ecstatic His family on the other hand were all starting to panic. He had his safety briefing and then put on all his gear Now he was raring to go, Old John he showed no fear He climbed up onto the wing and then he got strapped in The pilot gave the thumbs up and soon they were flying. Up in to the air now, they banked to the left and right His family they all agreed it was one awesome sight The pilot signalled to Old John, it was the grand finale This is what Old John had wanted all his family to see. The plane it dived and looped the loop with one incredible move And then Old John thought to himself I've nothing left to prove The plane then landed safely his family they were so proud Old Johns ears were ringing, the wind had been so loud. He'd felt the cold wind pressing, hard against his face Jokingly he asked his family, If it was still in place His wife she then kissed him and asked "How did he feel"? Old John said "I'm starving now, I'm ready for a meal". His son then curiously asked him, what his next venture would be Old John he laughed out loudly and said "A shark cage in the sea" He said " I like to do these things and some of them I dread But then I think to myself, I'll be a long time dead" . (Go through life and confront your fears or your book of life will be filled with pages of regret) Written 6th February 2018

Tom, How wonderful and FULL of life is Old John! There is no time like the present. Beautiful moving imagery and details. I want to wing walk. It sounds frightening and fantastic! Nothing like confronting our fears. We can fly free whenever we so choose. Thank you for this. I will not be filing my life pages with regret ! Susan :-)

This is fantastic! I couldn't agree more. I did the Sears tower glass ledge and I hate heights. I still want to skydive and do a hot air balloon ride. Wanna go? Great story and message here, Tom.

Wow Rhoda, had to google the Sears glass ledge, that's one page of regret you can tear out lol. I've done a ballon flight, amazing. When I was in Turkey I paraglided off a mountain, bit nerve wracking but felt ten feet tall after. So if the chance to skydive comes along,go for it and I'll compose a verse in your honour and put it on here.who knows I might join you lol.

Tom, what a great story! So many don’t believe we can handle an adventure. My husband wanted to leave me behind on one such venture and I was like no, I’m going. Now I don’t do it all but there is much I enjoy! Kudos!

Hi Tom, I see why Jan got inspired to write a limerick. Good content, imagery and rhymes. Great message on conquering your fears. I agree giving in to fear causes much regret. Well done:-) Alexis

Thank you very much Sneha, I'm pleased that you are enjoying my poems. I did loop the loop once years ago and I've never forgotten it, it was a fantastic experience, as the saying goes, I'll try anything once as long as it's safe. As we get older we may not be able to do things that we wanted to do and by then it's too late. Regards Tom.
