The Unsupervised Stop Sign

It was late at night and I couldn't sleep restless as a caged bird I flew the coop in my 1964 blue thunderbird... I saw him from the corner of my eye cradling an empty bottle of gin I rolled down the window and asked him if he needed a place to stay for the night he answered with his best Sunday smile "I'm a waiting for my Missy, she's gone to heaven but she'll be back soon " Beneath an unsupervised stop sign lay a broken man with empty arms "What was her name ? I asked Josephine -Elizabeth -McIntosh... I waited a bit longer then I had to go But just before I peeled off I heard the voice of an Angel singing softly lyrics that my mother sang when I was just a lad, "sand man swings the lantern to show that all is well"

what a touching and poignant poem. It pulled on my heart strings. The last verse had me almost teary-eyed. Nicely done, Sara
