The Unhappy Hostess

Come into my house,
Sit anywhere you like.

No, not at my table,
No, not on my chair.
Come into my house,
Sit anywhere.

I invited you,
I opened up my home.
Oh, I changed my mind,
It is a vaulted tome.
Sit anywhere.

Come into my house,
You really are not welcome.
You are a phantom guest,
And a sadly, unwanted pest,
Yet still...
Sit anywhere.

It is a perfect place,
You should have been more proud,
Just to be invited,
And permitted, in the crowd.
Sit anywhere.

With rules and hidden spaces.
And a common thought out plan,
You do not fit, so do not sit,
“Sit anywhere”.

I wish it were not so... often we have to go places, we know we are not welcome, on behalf of other people... it is difficult at times... Thank you for the kind comments. Ann

Ah, we can accept or we can tolerate yet the welcome still exists. Great piece and very timely.

A great hostess does her best in all circumstances... but if the guest knows they are unwelcome even for a moment, they have failed... Have a very love day. Ty for stopping by... Ann

Our house is called NoMates Manor No one comes to NoMates Manor. If they did they could sit anywhere, but, No one comes so we sit anywhere. We are happy to see all folk. Some when they come. Some when they go. God Bless. D.

Thank you for your kind words. I try to keep in my heart, my grandmothers house...full of good smells, and plenty to eat, always room at her table, and no one ever was turned away... Ann

The words "vaulted tome" refer to giant vaulted ceilings like in great churches.

I felt uncomfortable and shunned just reading this. Humans can be such polite monsters, can't they! excellent write!

Thank you for your kind words. We have all tried to make good impressions, and fallen short, but sometimes no impressions are enough. Ann
