The Type-Casted

angry because the role that led them
to the top,
is the only one that anyone remembers,
the actor/actresses trudges through
the rest of their career
as if this was their proverbial
“cross to bear”---
but how many actors/actresses
are every really known to begin with?
how many do we consumers of
popular culture,
recognize, the minute the curtain opens,
the theme song ends on our favorite show,
or the credits are over & the film begins?
for that matter,
how many artists, writers, painters,
dancers, comedians, etc.
are ever really widely distributed at
all?
how many of those who struggle,
ever get to quit their 9-5 or 7-7
in order to pursue what they love
full-time?
for the rest of us who will spend a
lifetime working on our art,
doing the time &
never get to leave the pleasures of
minimum wage, please
mr. & ms.
type-casted,
stop *****ing about the fact
that once you played a character or
a role
which will go down in our cultural
history,
as something that touched us all, or
amazed us in such a way,
that we will always associate your
face with it---
you are lucky to have ever
gotten such a chance.
