the truth I didn’t want to believe

I gave all I had
even when I thought
I had nothing to give.

I stayed,
I fought,
I built bridges
over an ocean of lies
just to find myself drowning.

I didn’t want it to end.
I didn’t want it to be true.

But no matter how much you try,
you can’t make someone stay.
You can’t make someone care.

And now,
all that’s left
is the truth I didn’t want to believe.
