The Train Hooted

This poem in its simplicity really, was written ages ago and was inspired from an Alpine Italian song La Strada Ferrata.   Ages ago I was in a choir and this was one of our favorite songs.  My poem is not a translation of the famous Alpine song.

The dark train hurtled head on,
     in the star-studded night
to its projected destination.
                    The train hooted.
Sometimes it slowed
as a solitary station passed by.

Sometimes it flew
even though the lines were crossed.
                    The train hooted.
Clickety clack, Clickety clack.
     The hoot hooted in delight
as peaks of ecstasy were reached.

Until the train arrived. Smoke ejected,
engine slowed to a stop.

But I assure you, my love,
the journey would have been no fun
had you not been with me.

A journey shared can’t be compared to one taken on one’s own. Enjoyed the video, memories of the steam trains came back again.~~ Belle

The video is a lovely companion to this magical poem. With the wonderful imagery and the singing and hooting of the train, I feel as if I actually took the journey. :=)

Great visual imagery. I was 15 when I rode on my first train ride. It is always nice to have someone to keep you company while on a trip. Hugs Eve
