The Touch Returns
THE TOUCH RETURNS
The leaves of the old calendar fly
Taking the days and months away
As I pass in my pace the time-posts by
Pegged at points of my unmarked birthday.
My mother celebrated that special day
Feeding the family and friends sweets
She always made in her chosen way
Till now I haven’t forgotten the treats.
All these stopped almost in an instant
After she had died a long time ago
In cycles my birthdays came and went
Nobody remembered or cared to know.
A time came when I also forgot
The day when a year piled on my age
So I was surprised when I once got
From an unnamed sender a package.
Somebody had gifted me a wrist watch
An unsigned note read ‘Happy Birthday To You’
I couldn’t guess who it was loving me so much
Such an angelic heart still existed I never knew.
My gratitude I couldn’t convey
Into a drop of tear I saw my joy turn
A silent ‘thank you’ I could only say
For in the gift I felt mother’s touch return.
