The Third Alarm

A third alarm was called, and off he flew departing dinner time to quickly meet his crew and ladder trucks all gathered to save lives and battle flames in smoke and heat. Our kids and I were disappointed when dad had to miss our plans that very night, for it was grandma's milestone birthday then. We hoped he would be home before daylight. The fire was doused and people rescued too, but now the building was a burnt-out shell. From the debris, a stray came into view; Dad brought him home to us alive and well. That night of setbacks turned to one of cheers; our Charlie cat brought joy for twenty years. Sandra M. Haight ~3rd Place~ Contest: Taking a disappointment in your life; turning it into something positive Sponsor: Brenda Chiri Judged: 10/08/2017 Charlie was rescued in Winter 1971 and passed 20 years later in Fall 1991. He was a wonderful cat and dearly missed.

Meow. Very good,I grew up on a Kansas Dairy farm where we milked 32 cows, my brother and I, twice a day. But we had 2 cats, both strays, we named one Calico and the other Pussy-Purr-Mew. Then all of a sudden, we were giving kittens away.

The sonnet was a perfect fit for Charlie cat. I really like the lines "Amid debris, a stray came into view; Dad brought him home to us alive and well." Good poem............peace!
