The Tale of Horton Javlin's Lost Loves

Love is a wonderful emotion,
it fills the heart with joyous commotion,
but love may easily turn to strife
and bring sorrow to a once happy life

This is the tale of a boy
who has possessed love's joy,
only to have it torn away,
for with none will his love stay

First he came upon a pretty girl
who had golden hair and a smile of pearl,
he loved her, and she loved him so,
but from this love sorrow would grow

For another she did find,
yet he paid it no mind,
ignoring all warning,
never had he thought this would end in mourning

She then left him for the other,
and darkness then did smother
him as he did weep,
and without guilt the girl did sleep

In time our boy was himself again,
but not the same as when
his heart had not bore the scar
of scorn, for many a heart love does mar

Soon after, new love he would find,
and this girl was much more kind,
with eyes and hair a dark, rich brown
and dimples that never gave to a frown

For a time things went well,
his heart emerged from its shell,
perhaps too soon his love emerged,
for in time his joy would be purged

History does repeat itself,
his heart this girl held on a shelf,
only for it to be tossed aside
for another she had spied

This poor boy's heart was played,
so far with none his love has stayed,
at love this boy cannot win,
this is the tragedy of Horton Javlin
