The Stoner

I was sitting on the corner, stoned
When out of the blue, my dead aunt phoned
How could this be, she rests in peace
Right beside my loving niece

I answered the phone, and my auntie said
"I know you think that I am dead"
"I'm alive"- my auntie moaned
Or- could it be that you're just- "Stoned"

In my dingy room where shadows creep
I heard my phone once more beep
“Am I under a horrendous delusion
Or is auntie’s voice a mere illusion?”

Memories arose and tortured my head
Auntie had warned ere she was dead,
Of the devastating risk of using hemp.
I sat stupefied feeling in my throat a lump.

Exquisitely composed poetry. Your imagery and wording are exceptional as always; it is evident in every phrase. An elegant and poignant composition. Wishing you all the best, dear Valsa.

A natural flow into the prompt verses. It seems like a piece written by one person . Wish you the best in the contest. I don`t feel inclined to participate in this contest...

Great job, Valsa. Hemp was a great word choice. I remember back in the 90s when my son would have debates with me as a teenager. He convinced me on marijuana being no worse than alcohol. So strange that hemp was perfectly normal in the old days but today only maybe half the states have legalized pot.

Well said, Valsa -- they do interact with us even when passed on. I have had similar experiences. Death can be even stranger than life. Lots we are yet to understand. To be continued.
