The Siren of the Killdeer

It brought immediate alarm
When the piercing Killdeer called!
As if nature stole my peace
By a flock of winged police.

The shrill was unexpected
And it called in two-beat meter.
Repeatedly she spread her beak
Sending vocal bullets at the weak.

I suppose the Killdeer has it's place
And some watchers seek them out.
I should bless and not protest them
Nor by net or shotgun go arrest them.

Excellent description of the Killdeer, Tom ! How nature sends its alarms can be disorienting. I feel all birds should be blessed as each have a unique role. I enjoyed your rhymes in this poem. You have a catchy title here. In full agreement with your final line. ThkU for sharing. Have a joyous day., Ghairo.

Ghairo, thank you for your comments. Birds truly are amazing creatures. We get stunning cardinals here from time to time and they always remind me of my mother. Hope you have a joyous day as well.
