The Silent Kiss
The silent kiss between the two,
flashed in furtive longing glances
was all they had
could have;
and the torture that they met
each day
to pass that untouched kiss
seared in withheld passion
is what they bore.
Their lips would never meet
or hands caress a tender cheek;
it dared not speak its name
their love.
And many others came,
and died,
who only knew a silent kiss.
