The Shadows of the Rain
The Shadows of the Rain
To smile in the shadows of the rain;
As they enter as if passing through
Rooms familiar where they laughed and loved (and cried);
They mingled spirit to spirit
Without numbers of days;
Where table after table filled the heart;
Where they met and blended only to part;
They took their lessons into the world of other souls
Where evening’s lights glow defining
The shadows of the rain.
In a whisper of a million words,
In perfect design or misshapen;
Fluttering pictures before a sitting solitary,
Drifting among the shadows of the rain.

Looking out sliding windows on
A rainy twilight when the mists form nostalgic shadows.
