The Sermon

The Stumble and Rise Poetry Contest
Back in my military days I was at chapel one Sunday morning and the Chaplain was really getting into his sermon, true story.

THE SERMON

The preacher preached with such passion,
his words he just didn't ration,
he exclaimed that's no s***,
upon realizing it,
recovered in clerical fashion!

At leat you were listening to his sermon, which some in the audience likely missed his faux pau. Many chaplains might have just let it go for that reason. Congrats on your humor remembered and a fine limerick.

At the time I thought so too. I can't remember what the sermon was on but it was on point as I recall and the Chaplain was really getting into it and I guess he got a bit carried away and excited and just blurted out...he continued on for a few seconds...but the atmosphere was utterly silent, eyes wide, mouths agape...he realized something was off...looked about...everyone staring back at him...did a mental rewind...said "did I just say..." paused..."yes, yes I did, I'm sorry, BUT IT'S TRUE!" and finished his sermon. I had to restrain myself from busting a gut laughing at that point. I'll never forget it.
