The Scent of Lilacs

The door is open, the breeze blows in.
The sun is shining ever so bright.
The breeze tickles the lilacs, I breathe them in.
Their scent fills me with delight.
There's a glorious day in sight.

Spring ! oh Spring ! We waited so long
for you to put an appearance in.
The wait was worth it, I'm not wrong.
This beautiful day will begin
with the lilacs fragrance within.

They are the flower of Spring, 'tis true.
Shortlived but fragrant beyond compare.
So before we must bid them a sad adieu
let their fragrance fill the air.
Breathe in the scent of lilacs so fair.

This must be your favorite form of poetic expression. You've done it again!

We have them right by the door and as you say there is no scent quite like lilacs. It is a forever scent I never get tired of and your words bring it all to me in thought. Lovely verse Francine " a 7 for me"!

I have two lilac bushes that bring a touch of spring so faithfully every year. I love the joy of the first blooms to cut and bring into the house! And ps...many thanks for my placement in the spring rain contest too....a little spring rain is just what the lilacs love!!

Ahhh, Francine, LOVE this. Our home had lilac bushes. Believe it or not, there isn't much that I miss about owning a home. But I do miss my lilacs. Oh, I'd clip big branches and put them in every room. Even brought them to work. The only other scent which affects me this powerfully is lily of the valley, as it was my mother's signature scent. Your French poem is lovely. I love when my contest inspires something different from my original request, and is glorious as is. Hugs chum-- Cyndi

Francine I can only imagine this scene, as I was born with no sense of smell, but I like it..David
