The Sanctity of Sleep

When in that dark space of overwhelming sadness, deepest grief, an anguished soul pleads for mercy, some relief.. The compassion from others is consoling but brief. One must savor the sanctity that comes with sleep.. There the subconscious mind in it's dream state will find, those lost, those loved. It's a heavenly sign. While our weary world weeps with a death toll so steep, one can lift up death's veil and find solace in sleep.

Such a beautiful poem Nancy. So well written and with so much conveyed. Those two last lines are so profound - I especially loved the last line- amazing! So many can relate to this. Really enjoyed reading this thoughtful poem. Thank you for sharing. Hugs and smiles to you for a peaceful weekend. :):) xx

I just want to thank you Dear poetess Christina for your recent visit and the detailed review of my poem. I know we are all feeling the intensity of the war in the Middle East and I've thought as a mother how would I deal with a sudden devastating loss of one of my own children which no one can ever fully recover. Have a blessed weekend.

You're so right, Nancy, sometimes we need that little respite from all the emotions conflicting us caused by loss, death and war... Beautiful poem:)

Nancy, your poem was magnificent...I felt the pain, anguish, and grief in your words. I, too, find sanctity in sleep...it's as if the death veil is loved and brings us to those folks who are now in heaven. I can soo related. Will be faving this one. Have a pleasant day, dear Nancy. Sara

Unless fears pursue us in dreams … but most people rarely remember their dreams. Enjoyed your musings, Nancy

Hi Unseeking Seeker, Wouldn't fears that pursue one be nightmares? I rarely remember my dreams either unless they are especially detailed and shocking. Thanks for your comment and visit

Find solace in sleep when everything is overwhelming and weary, i know that feeling so well, i think somedays we all feel this way, and you’ve expressed this so flawlessly! So much depth in every line. Sometimes compassion of others is nice but like youv said brief. When im feeling this way, i tend to self isolate. Felt this

I would have felt the same, as a mother it just is devastating: recently a 15 year old jumped off a building, and died and it has been bothering me too alot as he is the same age as my son. So sad! Life. And yes the war! I am praying for world peace. I read the news and im just left devastated: i understand you completely. We are all feeling this way right hoping that prayers can help

Hi Ink Empress, I just got back from Austin last weekend and had an intense trip down with a passenger who lost their youngest son who had just turned 21 in 2019 and then the other day I met a woman here who lost her oldest daughter in 2020 from a car accident, plus this God awful war. I've been feeling sad and totally energy depleted. Thanks so much for your visit and keep praying for peace in the Middle East.
