The Rose and the Bee

Like a bee that searches for the nectar of a blossom
So you found me
And desired my nectar
But my flower stopped producing long ago.

And I promise you, I am not lying, that I have tried to hide behind my petals
Myriad of thorns line up my stem
You can look from afar
But do not try to get near me
My thorns serve to warn
Your heart may get pricked
And your flesh torn
I cannot guarantee you that it won’t sting
That is the result of a women’s scorn
I cover myself with my leaves
But I know that I was meant to be seen
Symbolic of love to those who dream.

My long stemmed stature reaches for Heaven
I warmed by the suns gentle rays
You, honey bee, come humming along
In spite of myself I am drawn by your song
The vibration of your wings puts me at ease
And I slowly peel back my petals.

Busy you are, my honey- Bee
Buzzing around me happily
I am soothed by your gentleness
And my leaves begin to lift
But wait…I am a rose
And you are a bee
So different we are in existence

The sun shines down and illuminates me
And I give myself to you

This is beautiful and sad. Different existence, different story but all search for love irrespective of scars and thorns. I love it.

Beautiful raw & honest analogy, Mona. I resonate with message. I liked the lines : “ I reach for the Sun & slowly peel back my petals” Have a beautiful day, Blessings, Ghairo xx

Thank you Ghairo. That is very kind of you. I realize that I have much to learn in the arena of good poetry. I actually would like to perform poetry... spoken word. It is so powerful. Have an incredible day, Ghairo
