The Rock and the Water
We fit so well together…
but sometimes,
sometimes it’s like water crashing against stone —
steady in motion,
but rushing too fast.
I want to help you flow,
help you grow.
But somehow, all I bring
are white rapids and mayhem.
We can't see what’s ahead,
and we can’t undo what’s behind.
You see…
You are the water.
And I am the rock.
I don’t move. I don’t bend.
But you —
you take any form.
And I’m a hypocrite
for asking you to stay,
when I can’t change myself.
You deserve better —
soft banks that shift with you,
not hold you back.
Something gentle
that guides you to where
every river meets the sea.
But here I am,
rooted in this cliff,
still trying
to keep you
here
with me.
