The Righteous Traveler

The Righteous Traveler

Beneath a sprawling maple tree a weary traveler sat.
Everything he owned affixed to his back.
A tattered bible he clutched in his hands
He looked destitute, but was a wealthy man.
For he possessed a wealth that could not be spent
and exuded purified love wherever he went
Heartless woman called him names unjustified
When she was done, she fell down and died
The rejected traveler knelt by her side
He prayed as he worked to save her life
Undefiled faith, his resuscitation device
As medics arrived, she opened her eyes,
“Was I touched by you? she frantically cried,
For heavens sake - I wish I had died!”
The lady who was not very nice,
slipped on a patch of unseasonal ice
then fell to the ground and lost her life
Town folks came and encircled kind man
Everyone wanted to shake his hand
Embarrassed by what they'd heard and seen
How could the woman have been so mean
The man who had not spoken a single word
Held out his hand and summoned a bird
The bird opened its brilliant beak and said
“Be careful of the things you say and do
for Almighty God is watching you."
Belongings secured, He bid the crowd ado
The righteous traveler just passing through.

Discrimination is such an ugly thing. Let us treat others the way we wish to be treated and not pass judgment based on outside appearances. God Bless!
