The Return of Moriarty
Placed on hold at Kaiser's and thinking back
on what was
30, 40, 50 years ago.
Who was I then?
Is there any present connection?
Did choices made then
lead directly to now?
Or is life just random selection?
Moments pop to mind
without regard to reason.
There's one now
running down the hill to class,
step to step in tandem,
two ten year boys,
Jack Moriarty and I,
frozen in time and space.
What came before?
What came after?
Why was that moment defined
and nailed in my mind?
Jack's name still retained!
I knew him only for a moment,
while people I've worked with,
and lived with for years
are lost.
Is this all just a matter
of fragile chemistry?
...Have your Kaiser's number ready,
we'll be with you momentarily.
