The Raindrop

Fool's gold
What should have been green
The county so dry was painful to see

Waited a whole year for this trip
Our Perseids date
The first thing we did
Was run into the lake

It was all we could do

We danced

An all out splash dance
Praying to seed the clouds with our spray

And to our dismay the rains came

We missed the shooting stars
But got our wish
And will always relish
The night we banished the drought

I think that because this was from the heart is why it rings so true. I read it like a mesmerized moose caught on a car's head lights. (Do moose do that? 'round here deer do it all the time.)

How much more perfect can you get. I've read this over and over Maureen. First read in the mind; and then out loud, and then over and over as many times as I wish. It's so perfectly balanced on the page. The sonoric sounds change but all the more in a way that gives you a sound poem. Truly a piece of art. Thank you Maureen.

Thank you so much Jeff! This one's close to the heart, inspired by a contest prompt but not entered. It was an unforgettable day. xomo

Hi Maureen, A poem with a heart felt message. Cape Town had a severe drought which lasted a couple of years, it was becoming an absolute disaster but fortunately this year, came to a halt with sudden and frequent thunderstorms. Thorough enjoyed this write and especially your splash dance! xoxo, Jennifer.

My brain hasn't yet woken up from the wine and beers last night, so it's really hard right now for me to express what I like about this poem. It has sort of a relaxed magic realism to it, if I'm making any sense. Anyway, love it.

That makes total sense, it was real, and it was magic. Well, it was at least magical, we don't "really" believe it was our rain dance that made it rain, we couldn't be 'that' powerful... gotta watch those hippy chicks ;) xomo!

This was really cool my friend. I watched a program last night on the feathered serpent god and how he was responsible for ending the drought, but I like your idea better. No human sacrifices needed to dance. :)
