The Rain Trickles From a Leaf

The rain trickles from a leaf Drop by drop Like punctuated grief Or the drip Of empty cup Draining mercy to the dregs We live at the edge of fire So flammable Our gullible hearts of sin And so blind As the forest burns closer And I I do not tell again by smoke The world too acrid, lies And I Listening for dripping water Hear Mercy merely dripping from a leaf
