The Race for Hollow Gold

Is not the world running a rat race
After gold, deemed as the richest prize?
What does it ultimately fetch us,
Other than making our life a mess!

The glitter of gold makes men go daze.
Flaunting wealth has become their craze.
Easy money is modern man’s obsession.
It will end up in his steady transgression.

In time, power and prestige may grow,
But sad, man goes blind in their dazzling glow.
Fairness easily surrenders to corruption,
Leading to value’s wholesale evaporation.

Character gets lost in pleasure’s pursuit
And man, degenerates into a mere brute.
Honesty and integrity are looked down with hate.
Discipline and dedication become obsolete.

Gold may glitter and shine, wealth may stay,
But time will one day take them all away.
The truest wealth is not the one we avariciously heap,
But a loving heart and a peaceful mind that we keep.

In hollow gold as our priorities, we place,
It is our innate virtue and goodness, we replace.
When men’s hypocrisy as probity, they plaster
Is not our world running into a grave disaster?

Congratulaions Valsa on sharing the first place in this contest with a lovely poem on the futility of the race for gold or wealth as none of them we shall carry with us iin our grave. I had this thought in mind when writing my poem for this contest , but was inspired on anoher track as I had something else in mind, namely, Indian immigation to Mauritius. I will keep it for publication with a change in title in the local press on the occasion of the arrival of first Indian immigants to Mauritius, which is celebrated every 1st of November.... Wishing you a pleasant evening.

Hi Valsa, HOW MILLIONAIRES CAME ABOUT AND THEN BILLIONAIRES, THROUGH USING CHEAP LABOR FOR Farming Agriculture DIGGING, MINING, BUILDING. THEY LABORED FOR A MEAGER SALARY WHILST THE LIONS SHARE WENT TO MILLIONAIRES AND BILLIONAIRES WHO OVER THE YEARS INVESTED IT IN GOLD, SHARES, PROPERTY. DRUGS, IDB, AND MANY OTHER MEANS OF ACQUIRING WEALTH, THESE PEOPLE MADE AND MAINTAINED THEIR WEALTH AT THE EXPENSE OF THE POOR. ONE DAY THEY WILL BE JUDGED, THEY NEVER HAD OR WILL EVER HAVE ANY DECENCY, THEY HAVE A DARK FUTURE AHEAD. LOVED YOUR POEM. HUGS AND LOVE Jennifer

"Gold may glitter and shine, wealth may stay, But time will one day take them all away." -- You can't take it with you, ain't that the truth. Well done, Valsa. Great message.

Very well done, Valsa. I chose that right for the same reason as you. To show the disaster we are headed to with greed.

This is well written, and it would be well if many would read and take to heart the message you have so expressed. I see the scars on the earth where miners mined long ago. They sweated for the gold others now possess. The wages of their hard work, an early dusty grave, now lost to time. Gold is strange, driving men mad, blind to the needs of those without so much as a home. Towers built in splendor & earth's mansions will pass, the greedy forfeit streets of gold. Funny, gold is Heaven's tar!

We never know for sure what will happen, but I am truly concerned about so much being spent on wars. I am sure those who manufacture those weapons and explosives are making that hollow gold. This one reads like a good contender to me for the contest. Way to go. Sara K.

You have written a really emotional and lovely poem, Valsa. It's a true source of motivation for those who believe. (Gold may glitter and shine, wealth may stay But time will one day take them all away) Reading these words brought me delight.
