The Promise of a Better Life
Some days movement of any kind Is enough to remind me that I am alive. That these emotional thunderstorms in my heart Are so full of ifs and buts and should have been That there is barely room enough for love. How I admire those who have mastered the art of living in the moment. Those who leave their pain behind when the lesson is learned. The waves are getting pretty high today And swimming to the shore is a daunting exercise But I am learning to navigate this fog of illusions that surround me. I think this is my moment I am going to transform myself from one moment to the next Without being drawn into the future or the past again. I have fought and beaten cigarettes alcohol drugs and leaned to live alone Surly I can reprogram my heart For the promise of a better life.
