The Prognosticator

a frustrated young individual
born of the late 20th century
sat down in their favorite cafe
buried in a borough of the big apple
with cigarette in hand &
a little memo book---
with coffee & cigarettes following each other
one after another,
they began to write down the most ridiculous ideas
that they could muster,
entailing what would happen in the distant future.

after making a good amount of ludicrous propositions,
all hammered out in quatrains,
the individual placed the memo book in a little wooden container
that they'd bought at a
thrift store &
then walked outside
to slide it into the street gutter
allowing it to fall down below
into the sewer.

hundreds of years later,
this box was found embedded in the earth below
after the drain, the street & the sewer had been excavated
to erect a building of some kind for the future &
the worker who found it got it to a "specialist"
who spent the better part of their life
analyzing the prophecies set forth &
warning humanity of all that was to come,
based on what had been written in the memo book.

as readers of the new book of prophecies came out in droves
flocking into a dwelling where the quatrains of mystery were read,
a collective want for these writings to be the basis for a new
religion
was born &
like all religions, this one needed to be fought for
in order to covert those that did not believe that the excrement in the memo book, was in fact mystical truth---
people died for centuries onward
all in the name of the new faith &
to think it all was just pulled out of the ass of somebody joking around
while puffing on a cig.
