The Powers of Avalokitesvara- Lotus Sutra Ch 25 Excerpt

Liberal translation of an excerpt from the verse portion of Lotus Sutra, Chapter 25 (Avalokitesvara Chapter). "..Say you are pushed off the face of Mount Meru, By invoking the powers of Avalokitesvara, You will float in the void like the Sun. Or if you are chased by hound like pursuers To the edge of the Vajra Cliff, invoke the Powers of Avalokitesvara, and not one hair Would be harmed. If you are surrounded by Vindictive brigands, each with sword in hand, Recall the strength of Avalokitesvara, and Mercy and forgiveness will swell in their hearts. Should you be ensnared in the law of Magistrates, And sent to the guillotine, invoke the powers of Avalokitesvara, and the blade would shatter. If you are shackled or forced into stocks, cry out For Avalokitesvara, and the chains will break away. Say sorcery and black art are used against you, If you keep Avalokitesvara close to heart, the malice And harm would be returned to the ill wisher. Or if you meet vicious Rakshasas, dragons of poison, And other fearsome ghosts, by crying for Avalokitesvara, None would dare do harm. And If trapped by fearsome beasts, With teeth and claws long and sharp, invoke the powers Of Avalokitesvara, and they will all scatter and flee in haste..." Translation released into Public Domain
