The Polygamous Heart-Eater
Our meeting
was not one out of a
fairytale.
It was an ordinary day
under ordinary circumstances.
Met at a bar
Ordered the same drink
and had a very stimulating conversation
about our lives.
10 drinks later,
we were stammering to a cab,
stumbling to my apartment door,
and settling on my unkempt bed for
drunk, sloppy sex.
Three weeks
-and countless beers later-
we were established in a
relationship…
or so I thought.
One day,
I decided to take lunch at noon
instead of three.
Walked by a fancy restaurant,
clear frontal, bright interior,
but spotlight was on him.
There he was
with some other woman
and jealousy crept into my heart.
If only he looked at me
the way he looked at her.
If only he smiled at me
the way he smiled at her.
I stood there for a few minutes
waiting.
And it happened.
They both leaned in
and their lips connected in a way
ours didn’t.
And during that kiss,
he looked my way
threw up his middle finger
and returned to his face-plant.
