The Poet's Shadow
I smile to the world
And enjoy the warm glance
That is returned to me!
I smile to the world
With a sparkle in my gaze
A sparkle having been placed there
On purpose
Meant to give the world
A hearty jolt
A jolt, willing it to want to smile back
Or even to laugh uncontrollably
Or even to fall to the ground
While grappling its tummy harshly
Suffocated by the massive
Jolly outburst that was caused
By my smile!
But then, such happens
Merely because I hide, in my shadow
My teary face
Teary because I have been inflicted
With the harshness of fate
Once, when the day was dark
As dark as the nether of the deep space
As dark as the unseen mystery that
Surrounds our existence!
Pray, if I smile to the world
Amidst my falling tears
So like the mightiest of all
Mighty waterfalls
Pray, the world would have not
Smiled back
Rather, repulsed
It would have turned judgmental
And would have wrinkled up its nose
And would have turned away from me
Leaving me to cry
Or to pretend to smile
Whichever!
Pray, in my shadow, lies
The cause of my once unsought for fall
As well as the weight it bears
On my life
Pray, in there also lies
The effects that it has on my relation
With the rest of the world!
In my shadow, I am,
But a one eyed doll
With my hair partly missing
My limbs broken
And my body, putrefying!
Why, in my shadow, lies that
Which I wish not to show to the world
Pray, a poet's shadow, is after all
Such a one
Else, she would not have met
With poetry in the first place!
